The PTE Academic test has four sections: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. To help you achieve your score goal, here are some tried-and-tested methods to improve your speaking skills.

PTE Speaking Component

The PTE Academic Speaking Test has six sections.

  • Section 1 is about personal introduction where you have the chance to give information about yourself within 30 seconds. Though this item is not scored, the recorded file will be sent together with your score report. Thus, it is important to speak clearly. Only 25 seconds will be given to prepare so maximize your time and plot your introduction in your mind to avoid stuttering.
  • Section 2 is about reading a written text out loud to assess the quality of your voice and your reading comprehension. You will be given 30 to 40 seconds to prepare. Listen carefully and wait for the short tone before you start speaking.
  • Section 3 is about repeating a sentence that is played automatically in the audio. Once the audio is played, the microphone opens, and the recording will start. Speak into the microphone immediately and be sure to repeat the sentence exactly as you hear it.
  • Section 4 is about describing an image. You have 25 seconds to scrutinize the picture and prepare your description. Once you hear a short tone, speak immediately.
  • Section 5 is about retelling a lecture from an audio- sometimes accompanied by an image- that is automatically played. You can jot down notes to prepare your key points. Afterward, you will be given 10 seconds to prepare. After the short tone, proceed with your response.
  • Section 6 is about answering a short question that may sometimes be accompanied by an image. Note that there is no short tone to serve as a cue for this section so speak immediately into the microphone once the audio is finished. The audio can only be played once. Likewise, you can only record your response once.

The PTE Academic Speaking exam measures your speaking skills by asking you to repeat sentences, read texts aloud, and respond to questions. The key is to speak clearly, do not rush, and stay focused. Know more about the high-stakes exam demands with JRooz PTE review center Makati.
