Top Tips for Repeat Sentence Tasks in PTE Speaking

Repeat sentence is the third task type of the PTE speaking test. Here’s how it works.

·         The page has two parts: the instructions at the top and an audio player in the middle
·         You must listen to a recording of a short sentence. The player in the middle reads “playing” while the audio plays.
·         Once the audio ends, the microphone automatically opens. The player in the middle reads “recording.” You must repeat the sentence you heard.
·         Your grade in this part is based on three criteria: content, pronunciation, and oral fluency.

Boost your chances of scoring high in this section. Prepare with a top-notch training program. Then, complement your sessions with the following tips for the best PTE online course review experience.

1. Know how the task works.
There is no short tone to prompt your response. So, repeat the sentence into the microphone as soon as the player reads “recording.” Emulate the pace and enunciation of the speaker. Don’t rush. Remember, you can only record your response once. Also, keep an eye on the bottom bar of the player. Make sure you’re done before the progress bar reaches the end. 2. Anticipate the audio.
Like all the other sections of the listening and speaking exam, the audio recording in the repeat sentence task type is only played once. So, anticipate the audio. Pay attention to how it is phrased and pinpoint the parts where the speaker paused. It’ll help you deliver an accurate response later.

3. Take note of stress and intonation.
Stress and intonation contribute to a statement’s meaning. So, keep an ear out for them. Copy them when you deliver your response to cater to the oral fluency criteria.

4. Keep the grading criteria in mind.
As mentioned above, your performance is scored based on its content, pronunciation, and oral fluency. Here’s how each one is graded.

·         Content – How accurate is your response? Does it contain all the words in the sentence, and only these words?
·         Pronunciation – Was your response free of mispronunciations?
·         Oral Fluency – Was your response smooth, effortless, and demonstrate a natural rate of speech?

Practice the following tips during your best PTE online course review sessions to cater to these criteria.

·         Don’t hesitate.
·         Emulate the pacing of the speaker.
·         Don’t copy the accent of the speaker.
·         Don’t force yourself to speak with an accent.
·         Don’t alter or omit any part of the sentence.
·         Focus on delivering a clear and modulated response.

Don’t confine your test preparations to your PTE training program. Complement your course with your own study efforts. Refine your communicative strengths and work on your weaknesses. Come up with strategies for the various test types of the exam to enhance your exam performance.
