6 PTE Cebu Review Center Tips for the Listening Section
Do you want to ace the listening task? Check out these six practical tips for the listening test:

1. Read the instructions
One of the most important things that you need to do is to read the instructions carefully. Always remember that there are different instructions for each listening task. These instructions will guide you on how to answer the questions properly. Spend at least 1 minute to read and analyze the instructions.

2. Know the different listening tasks
The listening test consists of the following tasks:

·         Summarize spoken text – your task is to write a summary of 50-70 words after listening to an audio clip.
·         Multiple choice, multiple answers – your task is to answer multiple choice questions about a specific audio clip. Pick at least two or more options for each multiple choice question.
·         Fill in the blanks – An audio clip will be played with the transcription written in the screen. Your task is to fill in the gaps as you listen to the recording.
·         Highlight Correct Summary – After listening to the recording, select the paragraph that perfectly summarized the idea from the audio clip.
·         Multiple choice, single answer – After listening to an audio clip, answer a multiple-choice question by selecting one response.
·         Select Missing Word – The recording will be played a missing word or phrase. From the given options, select the word/phrase the fits to the recording.
·         Highlight Incorrect Words – Select the word from the written transcript that is different from the speech in the audio clip.
·         Write From Dictation – After listening to the recording, write the content of the audio clip in the box verbatim.

3. Listen carefully
As you listen to each question, consider the following points:

·         Determine the overall idea of the recording.
·         Pay attention to the most repeated words and phrases.
·         Close your eyes for better attention.
·         Don’t skip any parts of the recording.
·         Finish the recording before answering the questions.

4. Use a note-taking technique
You will be allowed to take down notes during the listening test. For each listening task, use a note-taking strategy to organize your notes properly. Use a different paper for each listening task so you can analyze the ideas and concepts of each audio clip properly. During your PTE Cebu review classes, find the best note-taking technique that you can use in the listening test.

5. Manage your time
Maximize your time for each listening task. To do this properly, consider the following points:

·         Spend at least one minute to examine and answer each question.
·         Focus on the easiest questions first before you answer the challenging ones.
·         If you can’t still figure out the answer, use the process of elimination.

6. Prepare your responses
When preparing your responses, take note of the following points:

·         Use your notes as your guide when answering each question.
·         For multiple choice questions, evaluate each option and look for keywords that are related to the ideas in the audio clip.
·         For fill in the blanks, use your vocabulary to determine the missing words/phrases in each sentence.
·         For other listening tasks, analyze the overall idea of the audio clip.
