What is the Academic Collocation List?
The Academic Collocation List (ACL) consists of 2,469 most frequently and academically relevant lexical collocations in written academic English. The list was compiled from the written curricular component of the Pearson International Corpus of Academic English (PICAE) containing over 25 million words. This list was developed in four stages:
  1.  Computational analysis of the PICAE;
  2. Refinement of the data-driven list based on quantitative and qualitative parameters;
  3. Expert review; and
  4. Systematization
The list is also crafted using statistical information to determine and prioritize the most important collocational items as well as employing expert judgment to ensure its relevance and usability.
