Academic is scored against the Global Scale of English, a thermometer-style
scale that provides an accurate overview of a test taker’s overall score. The
PTE overall score consists of two components: communicative (listening,
reading, speaking, and writing) and enabling skills scores. If you’re a test

PTE Enabling Skills Scores
The enabling
skills scores are used to rate your performance in the PTE Speaking and Writing
Sub-tests. The range for each enabling skill score is between 10 and 90 points.

1. Grammar
The first
enabling skill score measures the proper use of the language with accurate word

3. Pronunciation
Production of
speech sounds that is easily understandable to most regular speakers of the
language is essential in this third enabling skill score.
4. Spelling
In the fourth
enabling skill score, the responses in the PTE Writing Sub-test should follow
the spelling rules of the English language. All national language variations
are also considered correct, but one spelling convention should be used
consistently in a given PTE response.
5. Vocabulary
If you’re a

fifth enabling skill score assesses the appropriate choice of words used to
express meaning, as well as a lexical range such as collocation and word

6. Written
Discourse

Reminder
If the content
of your answer violated the instruction of a specific PTE Academic component,
you will receive no enabling skill points for that particular item. For
example, if your response in the Writing Sub-test is longer than the required
word count, you will receive zero points in the written discourse of the
enabling skills scores.
