  1. Learning about the test formats
The Pearson Test of English has three main parts: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading components. During the three-hour test, exam takers will encounter twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple-choice to essay writing and interpreting information. Here are the three parts of the Pearson Test of English:

    • Part 1: Speaking and Writing (77–93 minutes)
In this first part, you will be tested on your speaking and writing skills. The speaking section evaluates your ability to produce spoken English in an academic environment. In the writing section, you must write responses in academic English using the correct grammar and spelling.
    • Part 2: Reading (32–41 minutes)
This single timed section features 15–20 independent and integrated skill items. The purpose of this PTE component is to measure your ability to read, write, and listen to the information provided in the English language.
    • Part 3: Listening (45–57 minutes)
The third part consists of various question items that are based on audio or video clips. During the listening test, you will only hear each recording once so you have to listen carefully. Moreover, you can also take notes while listening to each audio or video clip.
